Gemstone Universe YouTube Channel Turns 12! Musings, Thoughts for Future Generations & Chhoti Holi Greetings! And also Why the Life of the Grandmaster is appearing so boring with No parties or style.
Good morning and wishing you a fantastic day! Today is Chhoti Holi, where the ceremonial fire is lit , signifying the burning away of sins and ego, which are primary obstacles in realizing the supreme God.
I wish you and your loved ones many blessings.
It's said that a king is known by his kingdom, but a leader is known by their vision.
That vision tries to involve as many people as possible in collective action so that many are fed.
But that vision also involves creating a foundation and a path of innovation and learning that will feed future generations and give them skill sets to lead better lives, learning from our efforts and, most importantly, our mistakes.
That is vision+ responsibility my friend.
That's why I'm a big fan of documenting and journaling each and every moment because we never know which moment will become a turning point for someone.
Case in point: Yesterday, March 12th, we completed 11 years of our official YouTube channel and started our 12th year! Happy Birthday to us
The number 12 is a key component in the Guruji Shri Arnav 9/12 way and is significant because it signifies Jupiter’s 12-year cycle through the houses.
I classify this as the journey from the womb to the tomb. In that 12-year period, Jupiter provides one key message which, when acted upon, takes you closer to your realized destiny, which is Moksha, Nirvana, or freedom from the cycle of birth and death. More on that later.
Now, coming to the vision: In 2003, the world hadn’t yet heard of cloud computing or smartphones.
I somehow managed to get a Toshiba laptop (blue and heavy!), a Canon ES Rebel camera, and a digital CD burner.
The underlying thought was that if a picture speaks a million words, a motion picture (video) speaks a billion!
I didn’t use this equipment until 2006, and not much even today, but I knew I would find a use for it someday.
On April 23rd, 2005, a fellow named Jawed uploaded the first video on YouTube, titled "Me at the zoo." Those in the know will connect the dots.
But It wasn’t until 2008 that we were doing anything useful or consequential on this powerful platform that would redefine media and empower (mostly) everyone to realize their dream of being a content creator, directly in front of the audience, minus the agents, etc.
The first unofficial recorded video (for lack of a better word, and for the importance of recordkeeping) still exists on my personal YouTube channel, which has 18 subscribers (1+8=9). The total video length was 1.26 minutes (1+2+6=9). Imagine, 12 years ago, with whatever equipment we had, if it still shows the beauty, what could we have done with it today? I'm sharing the link with you below, and it should be part of the Gemstone Universe archive, learning, and museum. This magnificent has since changed hands six times, each time setting a new record with a remarkable background story.
https://youtu.be/4weCcdthlRc?si=Lks8f_hldWi3_AVA
The first public video was of a Peridot ring paired with a background score of African drum beats – a totally obnoxious compilation of a beautiful visual with an inappropriate, vulgar tune, but I still let it float.
Interestingly, this YouTube baby is our second baby, and the first YouTube channel was officially banned! Yes, "banned" and I go back a long way.
The original YouTube channel, with around 600 videos and the number one search result for most gemstone astrology queries, was banned at the start of 2012 due to copyright violation for using background music that didn’t belong to us.
The bigger lesson is that this didn’t deter me. With the blessings of elders and some kind of connection, I put my staff in direct contact with the YouTube head of content in India.
Think about it – that was difficult and impossible back then, and remains so today. I put them in touch with the gentleman so they could learn business and decision-making firsthand.
But what happened was contrary, and then I had a personal word with the content head who requested, "Guruji, with the set of people and the kind of privacy policy that you have signed up for, it is my great recommendation that you let the channel be banned. Otherwise, you will end up wasting a lot of your precious time." That was good advice, and that is the way of the professionals.
Currently, we have around 1100 videos, which is huge! We may not have millions of followers or views, but we rank high on technical parameters like bouncing rates and engagement rates.
This means our end goal of producing quality content with ethics and responsibility, and sometimes providing cutting-edge insights, has been largely successful.
What I can brag about is that the Gemstone Universe YouTube channel is one of the few that is screened most on an Apple TV, and that gives us bragging rights!
I'm very happy when I'm aware of this data and what we're doing, despite the people who may eventually help in content creation being totally unaware of it.
We've always been very responsible and ethical with sound and visuals. As I've been saying, the word is very powerful and was there before the world.
It has been presented responsibly without causing any harm or damage. Case in point: my evaluation of an animated visual of a painting by an accomplished artist, where I said that viewing this video could lead to the onset of an epileptic attack. Search and you shall find!
Most of the videos of gemstones, rings, pendants, and talismans are very high quality with minimal edits because I didn’t think that, except for moving a gem 360° on a turntable, the people involved in content creation really had the space or the chutzpah to see the real story behind it. Even a 360 movement was itself presented as a big task.
Most of the human content on our channel that features me (and I say most) is simply point-and-shoot content, generally from an iPhone with no other sophisticated equipment, and this is the content which has the highest engagement rate.
I've given my public thoughts about being responsible for content when it comes into the public domain. From my own point of view, I'd like to express explicitly my gratitude to the YouTube team and especially Susan, who ensured that the underlying core belief of everybody having access to content would remain the primary focus of YouTube.
When I see people in remote, sub-Saharan deserts watching YouTube, I know that the core concepts and beliefs, despite all the anomalies and malpractices, have remained in place. This will be a value component for YouTube, and it will remain relevant as long as it adheres to these principles.
12 years, roughly around 1200 videos, and some really rare footage. The video with the highest engagement rate of a product or service on our channel is titled "Ethiopian Soils Enters Gemstone Universe," and that video consists of footage of Ethiopian opals. That's another story!
Being responsible also means being alert. I've constantly shared about being responsible with your browsing habits, the content you watch and consume, and most importantly, the content you share and propagate because every single dialogue is still floating somewhere on the internet.
Case in point: this particular ring that I've shared. Millions don't know about it, but the people who make millions know about it. Know that difference and make that change.
Yesterday, early morning, I got an upscaled footage of this particular Emerald ring from you know who was at the zoo on April 23rd, 2005, two days before my birthday, and asked me if there was a big party or celebration about this particular event, which will form an immortal part of Gemstone Universe history and legacy. To which I gave him a return gift of another video!
So, happy content creation, happy birthday to the Gemstone Universe YouTube channel, and happy Chhoti Holi! I wish you well.
Celebrations will be back, but let me first take out the trash. God bless you.
So, coming to the king and the leader part, allow me, the man with two videos and 18 subscribers who also happens to have a channel with a thousand-plus videos, to give you some tips to be a success on YouTube and in future times and terms on any visual media.
That man also happens to be on the cover of the Wall Street Journal but doesn't have millions of views on a video where he shakes his legs.I will correct that soon!
**Be original** about your expertise, product, or service. Go ahead and decorate your visual content with the bells and whistles of special effects, music, and sound, but make sure no editor convinces you to become the background and the bells and whistles take center stage.
**Give people more of what they want.** Don’t give people what they don’t want. Be yourself and don’t produce content just for the sake of it.
**Be consistent** with your content creation and be loyal and respectful to your audience. That consistency can be once a week, once a month, or once in three months, but whatever your base, be consistent, and that translates automatically to respecting your audience.
**Don’t be a copycat.** You were born an original. Why would you want to die a copy? Leave your own indelible and original mark – a mark that delivers value and not 1 million views. Be a life-changer for some, not an entertainment joker for millions. What works for you may not necessarily work for others and vice versa.
**Have faith** in your ability and conviction in your work, and let the so-called nature or good luck do its magic. That is the way it works. Case in point: the song "Duniya Jala Denge" from Animal by B Praak. If I recall correctly, that particular song and video was floating on YouTube for a good 5+ years with 343 views, and then it was noticed by the producers of Animal who approached B Praak for the rights.
The rest is history. Once it became part of the Animal movie, it got millions of views, but most importantly, it gave the artist what he actually deserved, and it gave the audience memories and emotions which can never be valued.
**Be very responsible** in your content creation and its presentation. Chinese whispers is a real thing, and no one can better explain yourself, your product, or service than yourself. Stay away from sensational content and clickbait just to rank higher. Deliver value to your audience.
**Remember,** the equipment, the studio, and the fancy bells and whistles will always remain extras in the background. If you are an original and a powerhouse, you will shine through. Equipment, excuses, or for losers or people who are not competent.
**Often,** look at your data analytics closely. See how your engagement and viewer viewing order were watching habits changed. Accordingly, tailor your content. The first thing you should know about editing is making the master cut first.
**Don’t produce any content** just for garnering views, which translates into some kind of monetary value for you. That does not work anymore with the amount of bots, competitive geography, and the sheer amount of digital trash floating around.
**And an insider tip:** look at your top 10 videos by parameters such as engagement rate, time spent on watching the video, time at which the audience interest was highest, and time at which the audience interest was lowest. It is just these parameters that will help you create new quality content. Once you have identified these 10 videos, they will be your bible to produce great content that will deliver extraordinary results to you and extraordinary value to your audience.
**Visual motion pictures or videos** are an excellent mode to socially collaborate. Man is a social animal, and bringing in other third-party experts on your content or your video to share insider information will do two things.
One, it will give a subconscious message to your audience that you are a socially relevant person, and hence the right person to engage with in case they need your product or service. Also, it will keep you on your toes where you will brush up on your product knowledge or information.
**And finally,** have faith in yourself, take up your phone, point, shoot, and upload, and that is what matters. Being in the moment and capturing the most important moment and sharing it is more valuable than romanticizing and practicing it because subconsciously, despite whatever programming and like people know what is true, what is valuable.

So, these are 12 tips as per the Guruji Shri Arnav 9/12 way and my experience on the internet landscape.
I hope some of these pointers may add value to you.
What happened to the Toshiba laptop and the EOS Canon Rebel? That is a story for another day!
But the beauty of YouTube is that two years ago, I had given a TED talk on climate change and mental health, and that talk on the channel reached 1 million views despite me not sharing or promoting it to a large audience, and that is the power of word.
Be responsible, have fun, and as far as the parties and celebrations are concerned, they will be back once I have cleaned my house and taken out the trash.
God bless you again and again and again, happy birthday to the Gemstone Universe YouTube channel.
