Mentor Moment 13: Zara Tasveer Se Tu… – When a Picture Becomes a Portal
A few days back when I received this beautiful photograph of two lovely ladies, holding my picture with my participation in the Indo British friendship convocation to be held shortly…
I realised how old, blind and senile I have become.
But when I got to know that it is the most talented as well as the ethereal Beauty- Mahima in picture, it opened floodgates of memories and emotions.
Some Milestone Points:
1997. Pardes. A village girl in a new land.
Mahima Chaudhry’s debut — innocence meeting modernity, framed by longing.
2025 Mahima holds Guruji’s picture and being a Guest of honour- a mentor, acting & grooming coach for a major beauty pageant in India this October.
A circle completes.
“Zara tasveer se tu nikal ke saamne aa…”
In her hand was not just a photograph, but a living transmission.
I was not there physically.
But I was felt.
Because when energy is real, it steps out of the frame… and walks beside you.

Mentor Moment 14: The Federal Express of Fate
Manhattan, 1999.
A young man in a floral shirt—me—posing with quiet fire.
Behind me? A FedEx truck.
That same year? I exchanged notes with Roger Federer , then unknown ans a boy eager to improve his game and fitness & soon to be nicknamed the “Federal Express”.
And this photograph? I have no idea who clicked it. It came back years later—like a divine courier.
“Before I was known, I was delivered.”
“The package was me. The vehicle was fate.”
A karmic timestamp. A breadcrumb from the Divine Postmaster.
Mentor Moment 15: The Shirt, The Spirit, The Sand
Mr. Super Brain of India.
The prize: A trip to the USA.
The place: Manhattan, Las Vegas, Arkansas, Miami…
Dressed too loud. Felt too free. Loved by strangers.
But confined by family expectations, orthodox boxes, and well-meaning worry.
“The Pardes outside loved me.
The Desh inside me wondered—can I ever belong?”
I mingled, I soared, I laughed.
But inside the apartment, I felt the caged bird within the crowned falcon.

Mentor Moment 16: Yeh Dil Deewana – A Father’s Telecast of Love
Back in Ajmer, my father, Dr. Biren Medhi, was suspended under political vendetta.
He missed me, but never called.
He didn’t cry. He didn’t complain.
He just sat quietly in front of the TV…
…watching the song from Pardes – “Yeh Dil Deewana”.
Shahrukh Khan in a convertible. Wind in his hair. Racing through America.
And he told a friend:
“That’s Don. That’s my son.
I hope he’s doing just that.”
And I was.
But I wish I could’ve held him right then.

The Thread That Binds Them All
Pardes wasn’t just a movie. It was a message.
From a father to a son. From a picture to a seeker.
From a road trip to a destiny. From Mahima’s hand to a Mentor’s legacy.
Today, on this Venus-blessed Friday, I offer this moment in gratitude…
For the roads I’ve driven.
The photos that found me.
The songs that spoke for those who couldn’t.
And the tasveers that refused to stay silent.
The Mahima of Ganga:
Here I am taking the liberty of being forgetful as well as old blind and Senile, but for me, Mahima would always be my Ganga, which I think she was named in Pardes.
And if I were to describe in two words, I would say “innocent defiance” or cold fire.
PS: Mahima do let me know what do you think of these titles.
In her debut movie itself, the impact of her characterising, a traditional Indian girl, trying to adjust to foreign customs, and the associated struggle of love and duty was a remarkable act.
No ordinary actor could have done that, and after so many years, the only memory that stays on the mirror of my mind is Ganga, throwing a flower vase and shattering the mirror—maybe it is a flight of my imagination, but that visual has stayed in my mind.
In life, talent and hard work does not necessarily equate to success, but what I do know that with Mahima being associated with the beauty pageant and lending her own skills and talent, I think the participants are blessed because at least for Guruji Shri Arnav, there can be only one Ganga and her name is Mahima.
We celebrate you as a jewel in the crown of the Gemstone Universe ecosystem, and wish you well.
So how did my first United States Sur go?
It is important that I must express my gratitude to the wonderful citizens of United States who accepted me as their own, which was contrary to the Pardes story and yes, I did rough up the hair of somebody in a playful manner in the pretext of styling who went on to become a style icon and currently owns 34 Beauty chains and salons in the United States.- Such is a Wonderful Life
