I have heard and recommended to wear a Burmese Pearl as these are of superior Quality- 100% incorrect statement with full potential for failure of Gem therapy. Things we don’t like series- But this will help you avoid the pitfalls.

A Rare Mother of Pearl exhibit from the Gemstoneuniverse.com collection of Fine Natural Gemstones

Today we got an interesting demand on phone from a client who asked for Burmese pearl and said that I have heard from someone that Burmese Pearl is of superior quality. Our answer was just straightforward please get a radiography report for the Pearl stating that it is fully non nucleated and natural pearl formed from Nacre.

For planetary gem therapy purposes the Pearl has to be fully Natural go get any kind of results for the Moon.

Please click on the link below to get details about What is a Natural Pearl:

http://www.p-g-a.org/pearls.html

A Pearl that does not satisfy the criteria given on the page above is a bluff pearl and should be avoided for Astrological purposes.

Coming back to Burmese Pearl, the way consultants try to do  a hard sell for bluff goods is really shameful. We try very hard in service of Planetary Gemmology to ensure that gem therapy does not get a bad name due to a few bad eggs. But such things have the potential to defeat our purpose.

Please note that the Gem therapy if implemented properly never fails and gives the best results among all methods of remedies. Some of the factors listed below lead to poor results in the field of Planetary Gemmology:

– Ill informed clients who do not check references of consultants.

– Incorrect statements such as the title of this write up.

– Lack of certification.

– Confused mind.

More details about Gem Therapy failures can be found at the link below which has Guruji Shrii Arnav’s enlightening article:

http://www.gemstoneuniverse.com/gemsdontwork.php

– Misnomers such as Bala’s ruby and incorrect assessment of charts.

So what’s the story of Burmese Pearl:

What has happened to the famed Burmese pearls?

The famed gold and silver pearls of Burma (now Myanmar ) are grown in the Andaman   Sea that surrounds the unspoiled islands of the Myeik (formely Mergui) Archipelago off the south eastern coastline of Myanmar .

Today, Myanmar (Burmese) pearls are available either as bead nucleated cultured pearls, or as very rare natural baroque pearls. By far the most coveted of Myanmar pearls are those pearls of golden color whose nacre has a distinctively rose overtone.

Note: These are not Natural Pearls

A brief history

British colonists engaged in diving for natural pearls in the waters off the Myeik Archipelago as early as 1891. After Burma gained independence from Britain , around 1950, a Japanese-owned company engaged divers to search for natural pearls. These were sold in international markets for very high prices. As these natural pearls soon became very popular, Burmese pearls? began acquiring a reputation as being one of the world?s finest varieties. One reason for this popularity was that 40 percent of these pearls were of a golden rose color, unlike those from Indonesia , Australia and the Philippines , which are generally more silvery or yellow in color.

The pearling industry was eventually nationalized under the socialist regime of General Ne Win, and attempts were made to develop a strictly Burmese cultured pearl industry. However, by 1988 this endeavor had not been economically successful, so the then military government decided to embrace a free market philosophy. By 1996 foreign pearling companies began investing in Myanmar in joint ventures with companies from Myanmar . The first was the Thai joint venture company Andaman Pearl Co. Others presently engaged in pearl culture include locally owned Myanmar Pearl Enterprises, Orient Pearl Co, and Niino Co, as well as a Japanese joint venture Myanmar Tasaki Co and the Australian joint venture Myanmar Atlantic Pearl Co. Due to the depletion of natural stock of the gold-lipped pearl oyster (pinctada maxima), the current pearl cultivation industry in Myanmar is based on mature 2 year old stock reared by spat culture.

How pearls are produced?

Dr Thant Thaw Kaung, General Manager of Myanmar Atlantic Pearl Co provided the following description of modern pearl cultivation in Myanmar in an interview with Dr Sien Tu that was published on www.myanmar.com

Carefully selected P. Maxima, harvested from the waters of the Myeik Archipelago are allowed to spawn in the laboratory from January to May. Twenty females and six males are placed together in each water tank. When the temperature is suddenly increased the male oysters release sperm and the females ova into the water. These seek each other out and become larvae that attach themselves to knotted ropes that are let down into the water of onshore tanks. After 45 days the ropes are raised and placed in panels that are located in ocean water leased by the company. This area is declared ?Out of Bounds? to fishermen and unauthorized ships and boats, and this order is enforced by the Myanmar Navy.

By the end of their second year of growth, the oysters are about 10cm across and ready for seeding with MOP nucleus and mantle tissue from a ?sacrifice oyster?. Japanese technicians generally have to be hired; they are the best in the world and can seed up to 600 oysters a day. And their success rate of 80 percent is phenomenal; of every 100 oysters they seed, 80 will produce pearls.

By the end of their fourth year of life the oysters are harvested. The shells are reopened and the pearl extracted; and while it is still open you can immediately insert another nucleus. This process can be repeated two or three times during the oyster?s life, after which it has grown too old and is released in the ocean to begin life anew as a wild oyster. (Remember, the citizens of Myanmar are Buddhists; so they will not kill the oyster to get at its pearl).

The GM continued: ?Our main base of operation is at Escape   Bay , located about 70 miles from Myeik. We have over 100 employees. The Australian managers at the Pearl farm and skilled Japanese technicians have been training Myanmar workers in all aspects of the job with no reservations about transfer of technology and Myanmars are fast acquiring technical expertise in pearl farming. Two of our workers are now as skilled ad Japanese technicians in surgical seeding of oysters.

We have been very successful in marketing our pearls locally at the Nandawun sales outlet in Yangon because our customers know that all the pearls traded at the Center come from our own Pearl farm. Furthermore they know that our pearls are untreated, natural pearls. This is very important in marketing. The demand for Myanmar pearls has outstripped the supply, with the result that unscrupulous traders are importing cheap foreign pearls and dyeing them to get a golden color. The dye fades in about a year?s time and the pearls become yellow. But before this happens, they enjoy a brisk sale among those who cannot tell the difference between natural and treated pearls. We guarantee that our pearls are untreated and undyed and customers have come to accept our word.

Myanmar Atlantic had invested millions of dollars in the project. For the first five years money was poured in without any returns. But now the investment has paid off and in the usual course of events we can expect to sit back and reap the profits.

However, there was a worldwide glut or oversupply of pearls and prices declined. In 1988, one mome (equivalent to 20.625 ratis) fetched US$500. During this period of recession it was all we could do to get US$100 to US$150.

The main reason for this is the economic doldrums that has for the past three years depressed consumer spending in Japan , the world?s largest pearl market, and this has led to a reduced demand for pearls from traditional Japanese customers. But recently the Japanese economy has been showing signs of an economic upturn and this will, hopefully, result in a resurgence of trade in the pearl industry.

Current status.

Recent estimates suggest that Myanmar currently produces 42 kan (0.15 tons) of bead nucleated cultured pearls that have an average diameter of 10mm. These pearls are sold at periodic Myanmar Gems Emporiums that re held in Yangon , or in the local market.

Welcome back the Burmese (Myanmar) cultured pearl. However, I wonder what portion of this industry survived the tsunami of late December 2004.

for this excellent factual article. We hope nobody will ask a Burmese Pearl from us again.

Our Take:

Burmese or no Burmese insist on a Radiography report and in case you cannot do a Natural Pearl opt for the best upratna for Natural Pearl-Blue Moonstone and if even that is not an option, then Planetary Gem Therapy may not necessarily be the best option for you. It would be worthwhile to explore something else.

Blue Sheen Moonstone-Best Pearl Alternative-Busting some myths.

Natural Tanzania Moonstone Set in Silver Pendant Natural Tanzania Moonstone Set in Silver Pendant

The entire endeavour of Astro Journey and Gemstoneuniverse for the last 20 years is to bring you the pure undiluted knowledge of the divine sciences of Vedic Astrology and Indian Gemology. Two powerful sciences that help us in making necessary positive changes to the Karmik life map and to maximize the portion of free will given to us by God Almighty.

In addition to proving quality information that works we have always from time to time exposed and bought in front of people some practices by unethical people who manufacture things just to influence the psyche of the individuals for unethical ends which have no place in Astrology or Gemology. An entire section of these practices and scams can be accessed here.

The Live chat support at Gemstoneuniverse is not manned by customer service executives but top Gemologists from top Gemology schools of the world. This is one such share from one chat. A customer started the chat and asked which is the best alternative for natural pearl? When it was told to him it is Blue Sheen moonstone he said his consultant has said that a Chinese pearl is best alternative and not Blue Sheen Moonstone. Since Blue Sheen Moonstone has a Blue Sheen it has Saturn influence. Nothing can be farther from the truth.

– Chinese Pearl is an imitation man made pearl that has no place in Vedic Astrology and delivers 0 results for planet moon. Read Fake pearls and 0 results.

– Blue Moonstone is a gem from the feldspar group and is composed of layers of albite – potassium rich aluminium silicate and orthoclase – sodium rich aluminium silicate. The schiller is produced because of light interference caused by the light having to weave its way through the layers with slightly different optical properties. That is the scientific explanation. It is not because of planet Saturn.

– All Moon Gems including Pearl transmit orange cosmic colour. It is quite sure this so called renowned consultant was not aware of the same and made a generalization to push something that he/she had.

So what’s the truth?

What is the best alternative Gemstones to Natural Pearl?

The Natural Pearl is a very rare and expensive Gemstone and a true Jyotish Natural Pearl would be less than 1% of all pearls in the world. When the article of Uparatna was written 6 years back this answer was given clearly but for the sake of clarity it is answered here again. The best alternative for Natural Pearl is Blue Sheen Moonstone, Followed by rainbow moonstone and followed by white moonstone in this order.

No china or Burmese Pearl or any other such fancy named pearl gives any results.

Gemologist’s Note for today’s Featured Talisman

Featured today is a Blue Moonstone set in Silver pendant. This moonstone is from Tanzania. Compared to Blue Moonstones from Sri Lanka the blue moonstones have a lesser blue sheen and more milky body colour. However these aspects have no impact on its beauty. But the difference between the prices is immense. A Tanzanian moonstone is generally priced 2-4 times lesser than the Sri Lankan.

Nice cabochon with a smooth domed top nearing 4 carats this Gemstone is brimming with moon energies. Set in a retro antique classical design that is a feature of pre independence Indian Jewellery it is free from any of the flaws as listed in the sacred texts. What is heartening is that this piece was shipped to Chattisgarh. The patron communicated with us on several occasions but browsed the Gemstoneuniverse website for several months using Google translate and reading articles in Hindi before making up his mind to implement his therapy with real Jyotish Gemstones. A change is happening… For sure! We really appreciate this patron because the translation is not that much great but he kept at it. We have been trying for a couple of years for a satisfactory translation. Hopefully, we shall find a decent one soon.

Note: Thank you dear patron for your gracious testimonial.

What are Jyotish Pearls and why they are auspicious?

What are Jyotish Pearls and why they are auspicious?

Natural Organic Pearl Moon Gemstone Natural Organic Pearl Moon Gemstone

There are two moments in a diver’s life:
One, when a beggar, he prepares to plunge;
Then, when a prince, he rises with his prize.

-Robert Browning

These words by Robert Browning are apt for describing the rarity of the pearl and its capacity to change the fortune from a beggar to a prince in an instant.

But is it that easy to get a Natural Pearl?

The formation of Natural Pearl in the lap of Mother Nature is entirely accidental event with no human intervention or a chemical intervention.

It is believed that a Natural Pearl is made in nature by accident when a grain of sand or an intruder organism enters an oyster. In order to safeguard it and immobilize the intruder the mollusc secrets a nacreous like substance. This process is repeated over a number of years till you actually have a real pearl

The chances of Getting a real Natural Pearl is 1 to a million (10,00,000)

Why are Jyotish Pearls even more rarer?

First it is very difficult to get a natural pearl. In this world it is approximated that only 3 % of pearls are Natural pearl and then when you go to find a Jyotish Pearl in this 3% the choice becomes even rarer. A Jyotish Gemstone Natural Pearl should have

1) Be Natural

2) Pleasing surface with no to minor blemishes

3) Alluring lustre, good polish, pleasing overtone

4) Symmetric and pleasing body shape such as round, button, baroque, oval etc

5) Pristine white, off white, cream white or a very light pinkish white Glossy surface for harnessing Moon energies. Read more about choice of colours in Jyotish Gemstones.

6) Should be free from flaws as described in the sacred texts to deliver any results

How to Identify a Natural Pearl?

Many People use fancy terms such as Keshi, Burmese Pearl, and South Sea etc to confuse the customer. None of these are natural pearls and you can read about that in detail here. Many fly by night operator’s pedal off poor quality irregular shaped pearls stating that because the pearl is irregular it is more natural etc.

Natural Pearl Identification is a difficult task and involves the mandatory use of X Ray Radiography test which is made up of X-Ray Fluorescent test, and X-Ray diffraction test. If the certificate you have for the pearl does not mention this fact then most likely you have a fake pearl.

To know more about what exactly is a Real Natural Pearl please click the resource below:

http://www.p-g-a.org/pearls.html

To be used in the sacred science of Jyotish and Planetary Gemology a Pearl has to be fully natural, made in nature by accident, full of lustre and not by irritating a living organism and calling it culture? Just visit a Pearl Farming area and see how surgery is performed on the mollusc and what extra things are done to increase yield. You will never wear or patronize these Pearls again.

Exhibit A

Keshi Pearl: A keshi pearl is a non-beaded pearl formed by accident as a by-product of a pearl culturing operation. Among all these Pearls this one is used by unethical traders citing it as original due to its irregular surface. Keshi has its use in jewellery but for planetary Gem therapy purposes it is useless. Some traders even go a bit further in their sales pitch and call it as a Burmese Pearl which again is not a natural pearl. We did a detailed story on Burmese Pearl and that can be found at the resource below:

http://gemstoneuniverse.com/blog/?s=burmese+pearl

Exhibit B

South Sea Pearl

A South Sea pearl is pearl produced by the Pinctada maxima mollusk. They are currently cultured in areas throughout the Indian and Pacific Oceans, primarily in Australia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Myanmar. Unethical traders cite the dots on the Pearl or a protrusion to peddle it as Natural. Most auction sites will have vendors with the higesht quanity of cheap south sea pearl. They sell it calling it as Moti and 100% real. Ask for a X Ray certificate and these vendors shall vanish in thin air. This is the highest selling pearl by unethical elements.

Most of the south sea pearls are cultured and only a few rare ones-the miracles of nature are natural.

And if they are natural they will be accompanied with a X Ray Report  to find out if there are really natural or not.

Buy Pearl Stone Online | Buy Pearl Stone Online in India

Exhibit C

A cheap Chinese Tissue nucleated button Pearl. This is the most commercially abused Pearl quality especially in India. You can buy a Kilo of them for Rs. 1000($22), Yes 1 Kg for Rs.1000 should you reach the right source. Again it is not natural and Zero Value for planet moon.

Exhibit D

A Pearl Stand necklace from Hyderabad. Under the royal Patronage of the Nizams Hyderabad developed as a major Pearl centre. Pearls come in many shapes and of particular interest is the ‘rice-pearl’ – a tiny variety, available in great depth in Char Kaman, Gulzar Haouz and General Bazaar. Around 300 years ago there was a rich influx of Arabian Pearls in Hyderabad. But now Hyderabad is known for rice pearls. Most of the Natural Pearls have gone and what is traded are the above 3 varieties in the desolate hope to cash on the fame of the past.  More than 99 percent of pearl coming is cultured pearl which again is cheap and is of no value as a Moon Gemstone. Here is what Wikipedia has to Say about Hyderabad Pearls.

In the village of Chandanpet just outside Hyderabad, almost the entire population is engaged in the delicate art of drilling pearls. A skill they have practiced for generations, making Hyderabad one of the largest drilling centres in India. Once the pearls are drilled, they are boiled for about four days to bleach them and rid them of their dark color. They are placed in glass bottles containing hydrogen peroxide, water and ether and sunned for four or five days in glass sun boxes with a mirror base. Finally they are washed and separated through series of different shapes and sizes.

Now are these natural?

Use these Pearls as Jewellery or as adornments. But don’t bluff yourself into believing that this cheap material will work. It will not.

Always wear a Natural Pearl to get good results from Gem therapy and Insist on a Certificate cum x ray report. That single report will cost more than all these exhibits put together. Everything in that video put together will cost less than a proper certification cum xray.

If you budget does not allow you to wear a Natural Pearl then opt for a Natural Blue Sheen Moonstone. If your budget does not allow that too then wait and accumulate funds slowly for a Real natural Jyotish Quality Pearl -a miracle of nature capable of creating a miracle in your life. Don’t deceive yourself.

Issued in Public Interest and for the cause of Sacred Planetary Gemology.

Addendum on 29th July 2011

We have no idea whether she read this report or not but what is ironical and unfortunate is that in 11th July 2011 we received a scanned sheet of paper which she says is a certificate. This is no certificate. It is a paper that says something to the effect of – Sajha Moti Nu Praman Patra and goes on to say as per our opinion Pearl is real and all testing is done at Owner’s risk.

Excuse us, we do not want your opinion. We want the facts that you should state on the certificate after proper X-Ray diffraction tests. If you have a certificate similar to one she sent, you know what to do.
