Comments Gemstones such as the one featured today are what jyotish gemstones should be like. The perfect example of what makes the cut on the stringent parameters required for a jyotish rashi ratna.

Soak in the blissful sight of a natural and unheated Ceylon Blue sapphire set in silver as a Saturn Talisman ring. The treatment free blue sapphire of 3.78 carat has a fantastic jyotish weight along with a coveted rich silky sky blue color. The oval shaped gemstone has excellent clarity and electric lustre – hallmarks of a fine natural gem.

In Vedic astrology, natural Blue sapphire or neelam is the gemstone of Lord Saturn/ Shani and is the rashi ratna for the signs/ rashis of Capricorn (makar) and Aquarius (kumbha). For best results in planetary gem therapy one must use a jyotish quality gemstone only.

Please note that in this particular blue sapphire, on display is master lapidary work. The fantastic cutting and polishing of the gem has lent it a matchless brilliance – almost adamantine (diamond like) in nature. The symmetry and dimensions, in fact the aesthetic appeal is completely determined by the cutter who is the artist in the world of gemstones.

Comments “A maiden born when autumn leaves
Are rustling in September’s breeze,
A Sapphire on her brow should bind;
To bring her joy and peace of mind.”

Natural sapphire is considered as the birthstone for the month of September and is very popular for its rich appeal and allure.

Featured today is a gem that has the ‘wow’ factor – a premium natural unheated and treatment free Ceylon blue sapphire of a great jyotish weight at 3.08 carats set in sterling silver as a Saturn talisman.

The oval shaped gem has a fantastic imperial royal blue color and excellent clarity. The sapphires from Sri Lanka are known world over for their medium blue tones. But this one steals the show with its rich color that seems to have just the right amount of color to make it a prized piece.

In Vedic astrology, natural blue sapphire or neelam is the gemstone of Lord Saturn / Shani and is used to harness his saatvik energies if well placed in an individual’s birth chart. The gem featured today is a striking gem and has resonating Saturn energies for best results in planetary gem therapy.

Comments A gem is a real gem when every morning you wake up to look at it in a new found fascination and when all else who behold it, are left awe-struck! Now that’s when you have landed a real treasure.

Featured today is a fantastic natural unheated Ceylon Blue Sapphire. This natural Blue sapphire from Sri Lanka has a great jyotish weight of 4.08 carats and appealing silky cornflower blue color. The gem is flawless and has excellent clarity. The most fascinating factor in this gem is the superb lustre that adds a zing to the gemstone. The crystal clear gem and the lustre allows for the gem’s depth to assume attractively, hypnotic and mysterious dimensions.

In Vedic astrology, natural blue sapphire or neelam is the gemstone of planet Saturn/ Shanidev and can be used in a talisman to harness the powerful transformative energies of a well-placed Saturn in the natal chart.

For a gem to be effective for planetary gem therapy, a gem has to be a jyotish quality gem. Aside of the generally known parameters of 4 C’s, it must be devoid of the doshas mentioned in the sacred texts. Let us take one dosha (among many), for instance, a blue sapphire should not be milky in appearance – such a blue sapphire can bring poverty. At Gemstoneuniverse, you can be sure that the gemstones offered to you are all jyotish quality and have been handpicked to ensure that there are no doshas at all!

Comments The color blue has had special significance across cultures. It is the color that signifies the heavens. However the symbolism of blue extends much beyond and there are varied interpretations.

Featured today is an exceptional gem – a fully natural unheated and treatment free Ceylon Blue sapphire of 3.37 carats set in sterling silver as a Saturn Talisman ring. The Premium rectangular cushion cut Blue sapphire from Sri Lanka, has a gorgeous Sky blue color with violet overtones. It is a gem with superb clarity and has a mesmerizing, electric lustre.

A jyotish gemstone par class, the blue sapphire is flawless and has the powerful energies. According to Vedic Astrology or the ancient science of jyotish, the gemstone Blue sapphire also known as the Neelam stone, is dear to Lord Saturn / Shani Mahatma and is a repository of his divine saatvik energies. A duly energized and consecrated talisman made with a blue sapphire can beget an individual the benefits and blessings from Lord Saturn.

Natural Blue Sapphires from Ceylon are regarded as the best for jyotish purposes. And not just that, the blue sapphire from Sri Lanka is valued more than blue sapphires from other origins like Australia or Montana in the US.

The gems from the latter origins generally lack the clarity as well as lustre, which is very characteristic of the Ceylon Sapphire. It is for this very reason, that these latter sapphires are invariably treated gems (redundant for planetary gem therapy) – subjected to different treatments to enhance the appearance and fetch better value!

Comments A good gem always catches the fancy of a true connoisseur. And especially so when it is a natural gem!

Featured today is a fully natural unheated Ceylon Blue Sapphire of 1.81 carats set in sterling silver as a Saturn talisman ring. The oval shaped gem has an appealing rich royal blue color, fantastic clarity and lustre.

In the sacred texts the blue sapphires are also classified as female/ stri ( light colored) and male/purush (dark hued). The light colored sapphires are also known as water sapphire or jal neel. The water dimension is not just representative of the light color but also of the lustrous quality of the gem.

In Vedic Astrology, natural blue sapphire or neelam gemstone is the gemstone of planet Saturn/ Shanidev and is used to harness his saatvik, transformative energies.

Stuart sapphire

Have a look at the 104-carat stunner called the Stuart sapphire that sits currently in the Imperial State Crown of Britain. The mammoth gem from Srilanka sits in the crown jewels besides the Black Prince Ruby, the Second Star of Africa cut from the famous Cullinan Diamond and St Edward sapphire among lots of others!

Enjoy the gems and also enjoy the video where Queen Elizabeth II herself talks about the crown:

Comments One could be easily lost for words upon beholding a gem as splendid as this. Every gemstone going past your eye will have a different story to tell, and comprehend you will for it is energy touching energy very subtly.

Featured today is a natural Ceylon Blue Sapphire of 2.99 carats set in Sterling silver as a Saturn talisman ring. The rectangular cushion cut blue sapphire from Sri Lanka is fully natural and treatment free. It has excellent clarity and a very pleasant and appealing light royal blue color. The blue sapphire has a depth, which has not much to do with its physical characteristics, but more about the metaphysical details where it portrays essence of its planetary deity.

In Vedic astrology, natural blue sapphire/ neelam gemstone is the gem of Lord Saturn/ Shanidev. It is a powerhouse of intense energy and can be used in a talisman to harness the saatvik energies of this karmic planet.

Among colored gemstones, the ‘color’ of the gem determines its value in a big way. And if ‘color’ comes complimented by the fact that the gem is ‘treatment free and natural’ and/or has good clarity, the price will go up by geometric progression.

Tablets of Testimony

Interestingly, in the Hebrew tradition it is believed that the Ten Commandments were given to Moses on tablets made of Blue sapphire. The blue sapphire tablets or the Tablets of Testimony symbolised the heavens and purity. It is widely believed that the commandments were not just written but bored into the sapphire tablets by the “finger of God”.

Comments How interesting would it get for you to be told that the first blue sapphire was perhaps worn by the immortal Titan Prometheus? Well, interesting and intriguing it is for most mythological details fall in place!

Before we explore the Prometheus connection, have a look at the amazing natural unheated Ceylon blue sapphire featured today. An oval cut gem of 3.12 carats with fascinating silky cornflower blue  color set in sterling silver as a Saturn talisman ring. The gemstone has excellent clarity and electric lustre.

Blue sapphire or neelam gemstone is a powerful gem that hosts the transformative planetary energies of Lord Saturn/ Shanidev. While There is no doubt that blue sapphire has intense stirring energy, one must also not be too taken in by the myriad stories/ myths that have been made up about the gem. The only two factors one must keep in mind are –
A) whether the gem is natural, treatment free and also free from the doshas listed in the sacred texts to watch against in a gemstone to be deemed fit as a jyotish gem.
B) whether you have got a proper gem recommendation.

Going back to Prometheus, he is regarded to be the first one to wear a blue sapphire – Prometheus (his name literally translates to one with foresight – he was able to predict future) in Greek mythology is known as the creator of human beings/ mortals. When he saw the mortals unable to deal with vagaries of nature, he asked the gods to lend them fire; a request that was turned down immediately.

Prometheus then decided and stole fire from the gods and gave it to the mortals. Zeus, upon watching the blazing fire pits of mortals, decided to give exemplary punishment to immortal Prometheus. He had him chained to a rock and ordered a giant eagle (symbol of Zeus) to eat away at his liver. The torment would continue day after day for eons as Prometheus’ liver would regenerate each night!

Prometheus chained to a rock

Prometheus chained to a rock

Depiction of Hercules a.k.a Heracles rescuing Prometheus

A twist in the tale led to Hercules rescuing Prometheus. His chain was severed from the rock but a link remained around his finger and attached to that link was a piece of rock – the alleged first blue sapphire! Zeus agreed to pardon and release him, upon the condition that Prometheus would wear that link forever!

Gemstone Imperial Golden Yellow Topaz
Weight 3.06 carats
Treatment None. Fully Natural
Origin Brazil
Planetary Energy Jupiter/Guru
Patron Location Virginia, USA
All inclusive Price $ 136.50 / INR 7371
Comments The Imperial golden yellow topaz is one of the fabulous gemstones known to man. It is unfortunate however, that the gem’s equity has taken a serious hit owing to the confusion caused by unscrupulous/  little knowing sellers who have pushed citrine at the buyer in the name of topaz.

Look at the lovely natural Imperial golden yellow topaz from Brazil of 3.06 carats set in sterling silver as Jupiter talisman ring. The gem is a classic emerald cut with amazing imperial golden yellow color and excellent clarity. The gem is loupe clean and is free from any treatment.

Golden imperial yellow topaz is the substitute gem for natural yellow sapphire/ pukhraj gemstone and is used to harness the saatvik energies of Jupiter / Guru/ Brihaspati.

Look at this imperial golden yellow topaz and then take a look at citrine and you will instantly know the difference. Citrine is a member of the quartz family with a rating of 7 on Mohs Scale, where as Topaz is a different mineral altogether that measures 8 on the Mohs Scale.

Citrine

Citrine is sold under various names – gold topaz, or Madeira or Spanish topaz or even Saxon topaz. Please note that Citrine is a variety of Quartz and isn’t Topaz!

It will be interesting for you to note that although natural citrine is available, most of the citrine available on the markets is heat treated amethyst (amethyst belongs to the same quartz group as citrine)! Sometimes Ametrine also can be found, it is a variety of quartz that contains both amethyst and citrine sectors in the same crystal.

Ametrine

Now for the purpose of planetary gem therapy,

Would you –

a)Wear a gem that is heat-treated?

b)Wear a gem that is recommended as a substitute gem for blue sapphire for Saturn?

c) Wear a gem that gives no tangible results astrologically?

We, at Gemstoneuniverse endeavour to give you the best be it value for your money or a piece of jewellery you will cherish, a talisman that makes a qualitative difference in your life or for that matter knowledge regarding gems.

Comments All gemstones naturally have an allure and appeal. However, aside of quality of the gem, the lapidary also makes a tremendous amount of difference to the overall appeal of the gem.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZJ9WZALZAA

Lapidary is derived from the word lapis or stone and refers to the art of cutting and polishing of gemstones. The term lapidary takes in its ambit all of the many techniques used to make a raw gemstone more attractive and useful. While some gemstones like turquoise are polished, others must be cut to get the best out of them.

Featured today is a beautiful natural Madagascar Iolite of 2.06 carats set in sterling silver as a Saturn talisman ring. Please note that this is a Planetary Bhasma Iolite ring where the shami/khejri bhasma – the sacred herbal ash of the herb of planet Saturn has been sealed into the tubular channel, which stands as a design element on the sides of the gem.

The cushion cut iolite has excellent clarity and a royal bluish violet color, exceptional among iolites – for a moment it has you wondering if it is indeed a blue sapphire! The gem has a beautiful checkerboard cut. The gem is cut into a multitude of square facets spaced regularly around the stones surface, giving a ‘Checkerboard’ effect of light and dark squares when moved in the light.

Natural iolite or neeli gem, is a substitute gem for natural Blue Sapphire/ neelam gemstone and is used to harness the saatvik energies of Planet Saturn/ Shanidev in planetary gem therapy.

Comments The powerful Blue Sapphire was mined and cut in Sri Lanka. Totally eye clean with intense fire and lustre just like the sharp blade of a sword. All Natural with no heat and no flaws it is a top example of what exactly a Jyotish Blue Sapphire should look like.  All of 3.04 carats, the 7 by 7 dimensions adds to the allure as it gives the square cushion shape to this wonder. One has to be most careful when selecting Blue Sapphires and ensure that no flaws as described in the sacred texts creep in to ensure safety and success of its wearer.

What are the most important features of this Blue Sapphire:

-          It is 3+ Carats

-          It is Natural and Unheated.

-          It has a fine color with electric lustre.

-          It has a near eye clean clarity

-          It has no flaws as listed in the sacred texts.

What is the Gemstoneuniverse Value addition:

In addition to providing real Jyotish Gems that work wonders we ensure that our expertise and reach helps the end patron in being a winner. This Gemstone was first listed in December 2010 and we made it available at a price of $660 per carat since we owned the rough. In the description we mentioned clearly that one would not be able to get such a Gemstone at even $1200 per carat. Today we are in June 2012 and the retail price of a Blue Sapphire which has features  such as these will vary anywhere from $1800-$2000 and do get these features you will have to find a real gemstone among a heap of stones .

Do research and calculate percentages and you will see tremendous value. As always once a Gemstone gets listed on Gemstoneuniverse there is never a change in price whatsoever.

But it is always true- A Gem is for a Gem. It waits for its wearer despite any quantum of research.

Does your Blue Sapphire have that special something?
