The pearl divers have termed its touch as ‘cold flame’ for as long as pearling has existed. It is also regarded as a traditional method of telling a real pearl from a fake one – the touch test. However, with the advent of cultured pearls, telling cultured pearl from a fake one is extremely difficult and only x-ray method can establish the authenticity of a genuine pearl!
