On August 5, 2014 Gemstoneuniverse awarded the” Maharatna” Award to Prof. Dr. CNR Rao in the 17^th JRD Tata Memorial Lecture.

Bharat Ratna Prof. CNR Rao was the distinguished speaker this year. Prof. Rao is a veritable force in the field of science, with his major contributions being in solid state and structural chemistry. He has also contributed extensively to nano materials and hybrid materials. He has 60 honorary doctorates from universities across the world and serves as the head of the Scientific Advisory Council to the Prime Minister. Prof Rao richly deserves this award for being “a gem in his field”
